Our God of compassionate love

Our ministry at St. Stephen’s UCC is based on the following guiding beliefs:
Mission – Vision, and our defined Core Value. See below. We believe in the sanctity of life – all life. We believe in the exercise of justice for all life everywhere.

We believe in Jesus Christ as our Redeeming Savior, Son of God, who voluntarily came to earth as fully man and fully God whose ultimate purpose was his own sacrifice for each of us on the cross. And, on the cross became sin in for us.

Further, we believe in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead after 3 days just as he said, and we believe in his ascension to sit at the right hand of God the Holy Father. There, we believe, he continues to advocate as our Redeeming Lord.

Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, serve the world (members, attendees, community), to energetically seek justice for all by extending God’s kingdom on earth.

And, we are self-defined as an “Outreach” congregation. We believe in doing for others as a central part of our ministry. We donate consistently through the calendar year to various opportunities to reach out to those in need. Among those, but not restricted to those, are Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Child Shoebox gathering and delivery; “Socktober” offerings of pairs of socks delivered to a central collection point for distribution to others in need; and, Clarence Community Pantry. Also, we contribute to the Lockport NY donation for others, “Brother’s Keeper,” annually. In each of these cases, the donations are strictly voluntary by church members.

Our vision is to love God, and to love others as ourselves as directed by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Further, our vision is to seek for justice on this earth for those in need.

Our Core Value, the main thing of all main things –

Christ Crucified.

We believe that without the cross, as St. Paul has said so well, we who claim Christianity would be the biggest fools on the planet.  We believe that Jesus lowered himself, walked among our “dirt,” and mingled with us in gracious, precious love for the purpose of becoming sin for us and dying for us on the horrors of the cross.
